Community Radio means a thriving town, providing us a sense of community, which has been lost with the obsolescence of print and other local media.

It plays a vital role in fostering local voices and promoting social engagement, giving a platform to underrepresented groups, ensuring diverse perspectives are heard and connected to local issues - Kathy Carrette MAPS Media Institute

I love Public Radio because it’s a voice for everybody and anybody.  It’s music and information and a beacon and a signal and a heartbeat. Why do we need it? Because it’s open and free, like the wind that whips across the prairie grass from Yaak to Makoshika. Christina Barbachano - Holter Ex Director

In January of 2024, I drove from El Paso to Terlingua, Tx. I was alone in an unfamiliar part of the country, on my way to visit my son. After I left I-10 at Van Horn to travel south to Terlingua, I lost all radio stations and cell signals except for the public radio station. It was nightand there were few cars on the road and almost no lights, and I felt very alone. Without that one staticky, faint radio station and the live DJ on that end, my trip to South Texas would have been much longer and much less comfortable. I wondered how people in southwest Texas could live with just one station, and now I wonder how they will live with none. - Karen Henerson Boardmember

What is special about public radio to me?  I cannot recall a time I didn’t listen to public radio after I first had access to it in Seattle.  I listened to local college stations, including the University of Washington.  Wow, there was great music coming from there!  I have heard so many great tunes from the various public radio stations over the years.  Also, great programs ranging from science to poetry.  Of course, NPR was always there, along with local input.  Currently, KGLT, MTPR, and YPR take up most of my radio listening choices, even in this time of Spotify.  Public radio has always been an inspiration to me, along with great entertainment and information.  I love public radio! -Nathan Munn Boardmember

Community Radio is a collection of non-corporate local voices broadcast through the airwaves. Using one of the oldest forms of mass communication, we can get news, entertainment, and share opinions for free and without the need for an internet connection. Public access is this tool is important for our identity as a community and a beautiful space for everyone to share. A community radio station is like a huge public park built right into every car and home. It improves our quality of life, gives space to creative people, allows for local perspectives and conversations, and, most importantly, it’s fun! - May Hay, musician
